Tina Carpenter Never Ever Land Signed Blotter Art

Artist Tina Carpenter is best known for her iconic batiks from the Grateful Dead scene, including her Jerry Moon, her Moondance and the portrait of Phil Lesh that was so iconic that Phil made it the centerpiece of his memoir, Searching For The Sound. In the spring of 1988, a full year before Tina created Jerry Moon, she rendered "Never Ever Land," a "fantasy show" portrait of Deadheads dancing around the Furthur Bus for an art class she took with '60s Grateful Dead poster artist Dennis Nolan. Subsequently, 1,000 posters of the image were made and she went on 1988 Summer Tour selling and trading the signed posters for tickets, food and smiles.

Originals of the poster are very rare and expensive, but for the first time ever, twenty years after the release of the poster, the image is available as a blotter art print.

Blotter Art is one of the world’s most important (and misunderstood) forms of folk art. Blotter Art started out as the artwork on the paper that drug dealers used to distribute LSD. The various designs were used as a sort of calling card to distinguish a particular brand. After some time, art lovers began to understand the value of this historical art form and collect and preserve the unsaturated artwork.
